Tile Grout: How to Clean?
Spring is here and that means it is time to do a deep cleaning of your home! Tile can be easy to maintain but is often neglected and calls for a deeper cleaning. The Floor Store gathered some tips on how to best clean the grout on your tile.
First, you will want to start with a stiff bristled brush and some hot water. Most home improvement stores will carry specific brushes for cleaning your grout. Spray the grout with the warm water and scrub in circular motions with your brush. For much heavier stains, you can use equal parts of vinegar and water, let stand for 5 minutes, and repeat the process.
To fully clean the grout, create a baking soda paste, and apply it along the grout lines. Once this is done, spray vinegar on the grout lines and wait until it finishes bubbling. Once complete, wipe clean with warm water.
Using oxygen bleach for tougher grout stains will assist in getting all the grime up. Some products you can find in your local store or online are OxiClean, Clorox OxiMagic, and Biokleen Oxygen Bleach Plus. The product should sit for 15-20 minutes to ensure it can work its magic!
If all else fails with the above products you may need to get a heavy-duty commercial product or chlorine bleach. If you choose to go this route it is important that you clean up any other attempts to clean the grout. Vinegar mixed with bleach can omit high levels of chlorine gas in the air. Chemical products can eventually erode the grout, so this should not be a process you use often!
It is important to always read the instructions and safety tips on the cleaning products, you should always have a room well ventilated before using heavy products like bleach in your home.
